WEEKLY EMCEE Hi, I'm Brian Maxey
22 January meeting - Some interesting questions this week.
This week we had another visit from BPH. Dr Sumalee Kewcharoen runs a clinic there for 'Obesity'. For those of us in denial (who said me!) this means most of us older Expats. Basically, if you do this simple math formulae, you can tell if you need to read on, or not - (weight in kgs) divided by (height in mtrs x2) = BMI (Body Mass Index). If your answer is 25 or more - read on. e.g. if you are 175cm tall & weigh 90 kg, your BMI = 29.39. Under 25 = OK, 25 to 30 = you need to do something, over 30 = oops!
You can reduce your BMI by diet or exercise or getting taller. Forget getting taller, so that leaves diet & exercise. The good Doctor produced many graphs and photos of the problems later in life caused by Obesity. I'm convinced. Problem is my memory is very selective, so I'll probably forget!
Lots of questions followed - including a persistent question of just how much calorific value was attached to the 'horizontal tango'. The Doctor was unable to quantify this. But I guess if it's tiring, it must be using calories!
Our thanks to BPH, and especially Reina for the continuing support. They reminded us of various discounts available on their 'preventive health services', on production of PEC membership cards. Why not go in and see what's available. If you get a healthy body, you'll probably get to enjoy Pattaya longer!!
Please visit our 'web-forum' where we have placed a few names of people wishing to 'contact' someone. This isn't only connected with the tsunami, although the thought may have been triggered by it. If you know any of the listed people, either reply on the site, or contact one of us to do so for you. Also please tell that person to 'call home' - someone wants to hear from them. The forum 'link' is: http://s8.invisionfree.com/expats/index.php? you will need to set up a username the first time you visit, but the forum is an excellent place to 'talk' to people worldwide about anything you want to know - try it.
If you are not getting our weekly 'newsletter' on your email mat, please visit our website to read it. It is produced, and uploaded each week. Please tell anyone who asks if you get our newsletter, that it's "on the PEC site" -

Details of a new immigration 'Entry/Departure' document (TM6 card) were shown & discussed during the 'Open Microphone Forum', along with other subjects & concerns raised by the members.
We can usually find someone who has 'been there - done that' to provide the answer. We Expats like to help other Expats - that's what it's all about. If you cannot attend the meeting why not try our 'website-forum' (details above) - same idea. (http://s8.invisionfree.com/expats/index.php?) or via the website.
Please look at your passport/visa stamps and understand what they say. If in doubt bring with you next Saturday - we'll try to decipher. If you are 'shocked' by what you see, go to the Immigration office TODAY to sort it out.
The German Chapter, followed at 1315 (
Keep the emails coming, tell us what you think of our club, tell us what you think is missing, always happy to know someone's listening.
The 'Bank' site next door is available for limited parking - but very much at your own risk. It is a 'building site'!
See you next Saturday
Brian.
